Brickhouse & Bowling

This past Saturday, the hubs and I went out with one of my dearest friends from high school, Candace, and her husband, Matt. We loaded up and went to Jonesboro for a night out. We had a scrumptious dinner at Brickhouse and chatted about everything from sports to embarrassing high school stories. It was so much fun to reminisce and bust each other out about silly things we once did. I'm sure our husbands learned more about us than they should have!

After dinner, we attempted going to the "picture show" (as Cody calls it), but our movie was sold out, so we decided to go bowling. After making a pit stop at Wal-Mart for some socks (brightly colored ones I might add), we headed to the bowling alley. I assured everyone that I was a terrible bowler just to protect myself from the embarrassment that was sure to come. After bowling a semi-decent first game, we decided to put a friendly wager on the next game. If the girls won, we wanted a day at the spa complete with full body massages. If the guys won, they wanted a day at the ball park complete with all you can eat bbq nachos with us girls being their delivery service. We agreed and got ready to bowl. To our surprise, we were on FIRE! I bowled more strikes & spares than I ever have in my life. Matt kept joking that I was a closet bowler and dooped them on the bet (so not true, by the way...haven't bowled in YEARS). So, we decided to go for round 3 and let the best 2 out of 3 be the winner. Let me just say that victory is so sweet, and the boys will be treating us to a day of massages at the spa very soon. Spending quality time with great friends is so important and so fun. We can't wait to do it again soon! Boys, enjoy the pictures of your defeat!

Saddle Ridge Ranch

Well, I have my first week and a half at Girdley Flying Service/Farms under my belt, and I can still say that I'm enjoying my job. It's just so nice to actually have some time to sit down and think for a while as opposed to teaching where I never ever slowed down long enough to do much of anything. I'm sure I'll miss the kids, though. Ihave been seeing several of my former students at Vacation Bible School this week. I'm helping with the crafts department at "Saddle Ridge Ranch" (our cowboy theme this year). They were so excited to see me and made me sad that I wouldn't be seeing them again in the fall. I just have to remind myself that a slower paced job is what's best for me and my family at the moment. The stress was really starting to wear me out.
I've been taking Manning with me to VBS, and I've brought his walker, too, so he can roam and play while I work. He seems to love it as much as the other kids until a stranger talks to him. He's really been freaking out if someone talks to him and doesn't smile. I guess their smile assures him that they are ok... If they forget to smile, watch out, he starts running in that walker to get to me as fast as he can. Bless his heart! I hate that he gets scared, but I love seeing him running to me for comfort. I just can't get enough of that little guy! On day 1 of VBS, we made cowboy hats in the craft dept, and Cody made one for Manning.
On Day 2 of VBS, we made bandanas, but Cody didn't get to play with us. He's in Michigan again on business. I really hate when they send him up there. It's hard being the mommy & the daddy all by yourself. Hats off to you single parents who do it on a daily basis. I don't know how you do it! I'm worn out, and he's only been gone 2 days! Friday can't get here fast enough.
On Day 3 of VBS, we made magnetic picture frames. In between our groups, Manning got to play with some of his friends, Ella & Annie. He enjoys seeing them so much. He kept trying to touch Ella's face. So precious :)

Telephones, Tractors, & Planes

Well, since our return from the beach, my short-lived summer vacation is now over. I started my new job on Monday at Girdley Flying Service/Girdley Brothers Farm. Good bye, classroom! Instead of chasing 26 fifth graders around, I'll now be sitting at a desk taking care of the farm and flying service, just like a daddy's girl should. :o) All of the workers and farmers have already been making fun of me because my first day entailed me cleaning the place up (first and foremost), adorning the place with citrus candles, and making letterhead with cute planes and tractors on them. I'll have that place fixed up in no time! I'm sure I'll have some funny stories for y'all soon because it's definitely NOT a boring place to be. I'm really enjoying it so far.

Welcome to my office!

Cake for the guys at work for Father's Day...don't laugh at my cake-writing skills!

Fun in the Florida Sun...

Well, I have been MIA this past week because my whole family loaded up and went on vaca to the beach. All 16 of us visited the beautiful Perdido Key in Florida. We were very happy that things turned out the way they did. With the news of this terrible oil spill (shame on you, BP), we were afraid that the beaches would be destroyed and impossible to visit, but as it turns out, the oil stayed away just long enough for us to enjoy a week full of fun in the ocean. We did, however, see lots of sting rays and even a shark that was way too close for comfort while we were there. I guess they were trying to outrun the oil. After the Jaws spotting, Manning and I hung out in the pool for the remainder of the week.

Speaking of the oil spill, it makes me so sad thinking about how badly this is going to affect fishermen, people on the coast, and all of the precious marine life living in the gulf. I just find it hard to believe that this can't be stopped! I just pray that they find a way and fast!
Ok, back to to our trip... We visited so many tasty & fun restaurants! We went out for dinner each night and spent most of our days living it up on the beach or poolside. My little man loved the water and enjoyed relaxing in his nifty new float. He even fell asleep in it a couple of times. Of course, one day was dedicated to shopping, so we hit up the Tanger Outlets. I spent most of my time at the baby clothing stores and Coach. I'm a sucker for good deals, and I loaded up on all kinds of goodies. :o) Enjoy the pics!
